Welcome To High Rocks Surf Shop
High Rocks Surf Shop was created by Sandy wheeler after a car accident 20 years ago left him paralyzed. This turned his world upside down as he had to adapt at the age of 19 to a new life as a Quadriplegic.
Fortunately, he had some good friends who helped him by starting a “Friends of Sandy Fund” which helped to pay medical bills, caregivers and allowed for Sandy to remain in his hometown, Umkomaas situated on Durban south coast.
Sandy spent the first few years trying to adapt to his new life in a wheelchair. Most of his friends moved on with time and money also began to run out so he, along with his mom began selling secondhand clothing on a table by the roadside. After a few months he fixed up a single garage in the carpark where he resides and continued selling out of that garage.
Sandy growing up surfing and spending majority of his time in the ocean, knew he wouldn’t be able to surf again and enjoy the ocean like he used to, so he then took his passion for the ocean and spent the next two years saving/planning to open a surf shop. After two years, he took a second garage, built an awning, and opened with only two rails of clothing.
Sandy decided to call his shop High Rocks. The name High Rocks comes from a local surf spot where he grew up surfing and enjoying the ocean with his friends. It’s also the place he learnt a lot of life’s lessons.
Sandy spends countless hours searching for the best deals for his customers and always guarantee’s the best clothing for the best prices. He stocks brands such as Fox, Volcom, O’Neill, Ripcurl, Island Style and Hurley.
Thanks to everyone who has supported & continue to support Sandy as he continues his journey.
